Nematanthus

Very tolerant and easy to grow trailing gesneriads with small glossy leaves and bright, tubular pouch-shaped flowers. They easily withstand hot and cool temperatures, drought and low humidity. Hardy in frost-free climates, and can tolerate light frost. Hummingbirds love Nematanthus.

NEW! - Tall upright grower with unusual scarlet hairy flowers that are upside down with a long narrow corolla tube scarcely swollen. Flowers size up to 1.4 inches and can bloom for a long period. Leaves are medium green, narrow with pointed tips. Stems to 30 inches. Trim it back to keep it more compact. It's an easy epiphyte that needs good drainage and semi-shade. Showy dark green, 3 inch shiny leaves with a large red spot on the underside, which helps attract the hummingbird pollinators. The 2 inch long tubular flowers are dark reddish pink on 5 inch velvety pedicles. The effect of numerous flowers dangling from the long pedicels is very showy. A rather large Nematanthus growing up to 2½ feet wide and long. Easy to grow with good drainage and a semi-shade location. A parent of Nematanthus 'Spotlight'.
