Family: Rubiaceae Evergreen 4 to 6 ft. shrub from tropical America, the Caribbean, and Southern Florida with tubular orange to bright red flowers all summer, followed by dark purple fruit, relished by birds. Great hummingbird and butterfly attractant. Full sun, tremendous heat tolerance. This variety, in contrast to Hamelia patens var. glabra, has extremely small hairs on underside of leaves. Protect from frost.
