Family: Bignoniaceae

Of the many showy trumpet vines, this is the most useful to the container gardener, for unlike its larger relatives, it may be grown as a shrub and need not take up too much space. It is also one of the most beautiful of all trumpet vines in flower, with brilliant clusters of 3 inch rosy purple trumpets produced on new growth late summer and fall. Its glossy green foliage is attractive all year. This plant comes from Colombia, Ecuador and Panama and was introduced into Cultivation by Roberto Burle Marx, a Brazilian landscape architect and plant collector. Tender tropical with a minimum temperature of 45F.
