Family: Euphorbiaceae

This is a double red form of the popular Christmas flower. It was developed in 1920 and is widely grown as a garden plant in Hawaii and Southern California. Seldom offered by nurseries, this large growing "Pass-A-Long" Poinsettia is usually shared between neighbors. Grows to 10 ft with a dazzling display of bright red flower bracts in midwinter. It blooms as day length shortens. For bud set, night temperatures should be 60 to 64F or less with 11 to 12 hours of darkness. Artificial outdoor lighting can throw of its blooming cycle and prevent flowers. Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Can withstand brief temperatures down to 25F. It's a myth that Poinsettias are poisonous, although rarely some may be allergic to the milky sap. Native to Mexico.
