Family: Acanthaceae
This rare low growing shrub, from tropical Africa (Zimbabwe), has flower spikes of dainty orange-red flowers. Give part shade, moist rich soil. Protect from frost. Ruspolia seticalyx has slightly hairy leaves and round stems, compared to the smooth leaves and angled stems of Ruspolia hypocrateriformis. Otherwise, they are very similar and easily misidentified. USDA zones 9b - 12.
