Family: Gesneriaceae

This is similar to Sinningia eumorpha, but with larger 2 inch flowers shaded a purple-blue. The flowers make a nice contrast with it's leaves and reddish petioles. This is a tuberous plant that grows in humus and among rocks in semi shady places in its native Sao Paulo and Parana States of Brazil. It is easy and has a compact habit growing up to 12 inches in size. Be sure to give it good drainage. Named after a Sinningia enthusiast from Brazil who discovered and collected the seed of a purple population of S. eumorpha.
