Family: Melastomataceae Very similar to Tibouchina heteromalla and Tibouchina grandifolia with very large leaves and large panicles of 1½ inch purple flowers. However, it differs in having thicker leaves and rounded stems, instead of the usual square ones. Probably grows 5 to 6 feet tall in partial shade. USDA zones 10 - 11.
