The long stalked grey gourd-like fruit is hard and inedible and can grow up to 2 feet long. Tree has a rounded shape with a spreading crown and grows up to 40 feet high on a short, squat grey trunk. The briefly semi-deciduous leaves are leathery, slightly glossy pinnately compound. Has been grown successfully in frost free Southern California gardens. Native to tropical Africa.
