Family: Bombacaceae

A small evergreen tree, it makes an ideal potted indoor plant, bonsai, or outdoor specimen with a caudiciform trunk and is grown for its delicious seeds, which can be eaten either raw or roasted. Roasted they taste like chestnuts or cashews, raw they taste like peanuts and keep for months in a cool, dry place. The large, white, self-fertile flowers display spectacular clusters of 4 inch cream-white stamens. Plant in frost free location, well-drained soil, and in part shade to full sun. Tropical America.
